Vista Tunnel Project   2016

Crafted as a form of access to an unseen place we know lies close, though can only feel, hear, or imagine. Vista Tunnel is a carving through that protected matter, connecting our two zones of nature or awareness.

The piece becomes a tunnel of access, similar to meditation activated through breath, sound, color, or chanting—in the idea of transposing oneself from one space to another space—from hill to marsh, or perch to waterside.

This piece cuts through a dense, knurly briar with a  sharp, clean shape that will return to its prior condition unless jointly maintained, closing the aperture over time. The tool is portable to be set again to zoom into another time and space, reinventing a new type of spatial apparatus for transcending a landscape with a means to bliss.
